I have the group 31 USbattery, and it has been a fickle and petulant female dog, requiring lots of attention to get the Specific Gravity back upto near the maximum. Hours at 15.1v each day after a relatively shallow discharge cycle, has not been enough. Can you do 15.3v?
I can, not sure about the O.P.
There is something strange with 12V jars in this size and their demands of high voltage "finishing" charges.
My mppt controller doesn't do finishing charges and equalization has to be manual. Following US Battery's instructions, I'm doing 15.3V monthly for 2 hrs ... but that's for the existing US2000 golf carts.
My 31 would be recycled at this point if i could not do 15.3v daily and 16v every 2 weeks. This 31 will look at 14.4v and frown and complain and become a much smaller capacity battery very quickly.
Now that would be a problem for me. By a daily 15.3V Finishing charge, you mean you just bring it up to 15.3V then stop. Or do you equalize it at 15.3V for any length of time?
The GC batteries appear to be much more friendly in terms of charging currents, these big 12v jars seem to just be petulant whiners who demand attention often, and often attention outside the capabilities of most charging sources.
Thanks for the heads up. I have only heard good reports about the US Battery Group 31 130Ah battery on other marine forums.
