After reading LandYacht's story, and other people's problems with 12V group 31, 27 and 24 "Marine" batteries, I'll probably will stick to 6Vs too.
Maybe it's just the bigger cells that make the 6Vs easier to charge up and more reliable.
There are larger 6V than the golf carts, like the US Battery 305 series; two of the 305XC's in series would give 310Ah at 12V. But they're quite a bit bigger, heavier and more expensive than golf carts. Think atBatt.com has a pair for US$440 + ship. So for US$200 and 62# more than my US2000s, I would get 100Ah more storage. (But what does my local dealer charge?)
Not sure if it's worth it even if they did fit.
