Group 31 are almost a starved acid configuration. That helps make them finicky in regards to being fully charged.
??
I missed the group 29's. They're not that common, none at Trojan, US Battery, Lifeline ...
Found 3 that look identical, same weight (62#), dimensions and Ah(125): Interstate SRM29, Sears Diehard 29H and Walmart Everstart Maxx29. But not sure if the Canadian stores carry them.
Thing is, these are cheaper (US$100 at US Walmart) and lighter per Ah than any 31 I've found so far (and most every golf cart battery). But they are very close to many 31's in dimension, and to at least one 31 in weight (Canadian Tire Nautilus 31). Most 31s are a bit heavier (66#, Trojan & US Battery).
So why does the 29 work better for you than the 31 does for others? "Starved acid"? Or are people somehow using them differently (perhaps not discharging as deeply?), are different brands better? :h
I'll take lighter and cheaper anytime, but still ... you gotta wonder. There doesn't seem to be much consensus on how reliable these 24,27,29,31 batteries are. But boondockers always seem happy with their 6V golf carts.
