I'm guessing you have inexpensive LEDs so just see how long they last and then replace. You can add a voltage regulator for the light circuit or just buy regulated LEDs.
You NEVER want to reduce the voltage to the slide motors. If anything the wiring will be to small to the motors. Check the voltage at the motor when running and you'll see how much the amp draw causes a wiring drop in voltage.
