Hi CA Traveller,
I figure if I get 1250 watts I can pretty much run the air conditioner from solar. That saves $17 per day in fuel costs for running the genny. Pay back for materials for a new system is 100 days.
In the fall I can extend the time before I have to go to the only local campground that is open past September, where they want $239 a week for essentially a power only site. If I can delay by two weeks, that pays for 1/2 the labor costs of the new system. And yes, I'd be able to run a smallish heater overnight in the bedroom.
A Class C doesn't have much in the way of "waste space", so if I can find a single controller that will "do the deed" I'll be happier.
Dash air doesn't seem to cool the house part of my RV well--so on trips I could run the roof air for say two hours before I stopped for the day.
The other item that will be extremely useful is to be able to run the fridge and cool the interior before I leave on a trip. I bought a condo in Florida--and yes they have a place to park, but NO, there is no access to power.
