Well no - with any genset you always want to start it unloaded and let it stabilize, then plug in and turn on the load(s). When shutting down you always want to turn off and unplug the load, then shut the genset down.
If an EU2000i runs out of gas there's no way it's going to destroy anything that's plugged into it as the inverter itself will disconnect output before that can happen. I guess that's one of many reasons a Honda or Yamaha is so much more costly.
