Instead of jerry rigging something perhaps things would be better to have the tank lined?
even if you attempt a side tank connection you will still end up with crud coming from the original tank messing with your second tank and sender. Besides relocating the sender may end up making it inaccurate.
You can reline the tank yourself or there are places that will reline it for you.
I have used the POR tank liner for a antique car tank, so far after one year the liner is in good shape and no more junk clogging the carb.
Another antique car I have I had bought a rebuilt tank which the repair place cut out and welded in new material to fix the holes. Then they added a liner to the tank. That tank has been in the car for about 15 yrs and still is clean as can be and no leaks.
