Our 10 cu ft residential fridge pulls 1.2 to 1.8 amps with a ~30% duty cycle, It doesn't take a lot of battery or solar to feed it.
1.8A on 120V =18A on 12V. that does take a good sized solar setup and decent battery bank if you are off grid. at 30% duty factor, thats 100AH/day.
I'll go with 1/4 gallon of propane/day anytime.
We are often off grid for a week or more, often several weeks, have lots of solar both on the roof and portable, but can't count on the sun all the time, nor always parked in the sun. Yes the absorption fridge has drawbacks, not as large as residential, takes longer to cool down, needs to be level, but it has the one advantage that is critical to us, it uses a fuel that has extremely high energy density in BTU/gallon and BTU/lb.
