We use that AcuRite kit and really like it. I don't think they all have alarm features. This is our second. The first kit was defective and taken care of by Amazon.
Be sure the door gaskets are good, doors close fully. Make sure the drain tube is clean but has a "trap" bend in it and the correct fitting on the end. Have enough in it to buffer temp changes. Use a circulation fan. Go for mid-range. You'll get better results with wireless sensors and external display than opening up to check a thermometer inside, even it's a better one. My opinions...
