I'm also using an AcuRite 00986 thermometer. I have compared it with several other digital thermometers and they all read within a degree or two of one another.
The AcuRite displays min and max temperatures and since you are storing med's you'll appreciate Accurate's temperature alarm function. If you want an extra layer of security, you could choose to mount both temp sensors in the fridge compartment instead of putting one in the freezer.
