Maybe yes,maybe no. If the run capacitor or compressor is bad the compressor will not run but will get very,very hot. If the compressor is getting stubborn and needing a hard start kit added,it will not run but get very,very hot. Very,very hot is that after 30 minutes it will blister you hand. A run capacitor or hard start kit are both cheap but no way should you invest money in new compressor.
I will break rank and say don't go to RV shop or auto shop. Your ac is just a home window unit with bottom discharge or a small version of a commercial roof top unit like used to cool your 1 or 2 story office. Auto mechanics don't have access to parts or manuals and rv shop employees are jack of all trades. Call the guy who takes care of your home and/or office. He may never touched a rv ac before but take my word,when he sees it he will understand more than rv and auto techs combined. Chances are if you offer to take your trailer to thier office,you get a price break. Good luck.

First thing to do is take the cover off and make sure coils are
clean, otherwise spray out good with garden hose.
Second thing is to make sure the compressor is running or
humming. If it is not running it could be a faulty thermostat
or run capacitor. If the compressor is not running it is electrical
and would pay to take it to RV shop for service. Not automotive.

Have it looked at. Might be a capacitor or PTCR or filthy coils.
Not worth several hundred to fix like Doug says. Thing is a repair will have little to no warranty. New one has one year parts and labor and three year parts.

did you confirm that the compressor is running?

Sometimes the A/C just freezes up. Try it again after it has been off for a an hour or so and its ok after that.

The ONLY test for correct charge is a temp corrected AMP draw on the compressor. That needs to be done IF the unit seems to cool. If the compressor runs but you have no cool/cold air, the Freon is gone. The systems are sealed so if the Freon is gone you have a leak somewhere. Your AC is 8 years old and not really worth spending 3 or 4 hundred dollars on finding,fixing and recharging the unit. It can be done but the cost is prohibitive. Better to install a new roof top unit. Doug

It is a sealed system so to fill it will need fittings added, leak found and fixed, then recharged. Save a few $$ and you still have the old machine. I would tend to replace the whole upper unit for new if more than five or so years old.

Needs a freon license, not all regular mechanics have it, but not hard to find one. But usually, if its low freon, then it's gotta leak somewhere because the heat exchange system is a closed loop. So, if its low, you need a pressure test to see where, or sometimes you can see it with colored gas - a test they run on the compressor.

So, a A/C is not cheap, but get your TOTAL costs to fix it first, not just the Freon cost, then find out a switch, then a coil, then x y z. Sometimes it's less expensive for a new one, and then of course you have a new one and not a fixed one that might break again after you sink those bucks in.

Not for one second recommending a new A/C - but just that you look at all the costs before you decide ...
