While I'm at it, why does my propane detector beep as if disconnected from power, also while towing? Does the car not provide any juice to the trailer systems? I know the battery is basically useless.

The battery is used while driving to provide power to the brakes if it disconnects from the TV as well as providing most of the power to run fridge electronics/propane detector. By the sounds of it your battery is pooched anyway.
Time to spend a little more time on here researching what all those things in your rig run on and actually do.
BTW what kind of rig with an a/c unit are you towing with a car?
