Elsewhere I'm reading that a 1000W AC inverter actually needs 1414W DC (+ efficiency correction) because the AC watts are a Root Mean Square average.

Its only a DC to AC conversion and its efficiency.
Analysing ac amps converted to DC amps would be a mute point. What analogy would you gain from such a calculation?
