The existing one is not exactly "old", so there shouldn't be much harm in adding a "new" one. But, like the abuelo here says, you can cripple any battery in 2 months if you try hard. A proper 3-stage charger with setpoints according to the battery specs, ideally with temperature compensation. Watering. Keeping discharge levels within 50. No microwave and other 1500W loads on a pair of 12V batts. If you needed a generator for just "lights and pump" with a single battery (100 AH?) on a weekend trip, then you either have a heck of lights or doing something else wrong. I'm pretty sure there were other loads though.
