Our mh had 1-12 vlot battery maybe 2 years old. I added 1-12 volt battery but put a switch on each battery, then only used 1 battery at a time.
Which can even more easily be accomplished with a dual battery switch such as this Blue Sea m-Series 6007 Battery Switch. For several years now I've been using a Blue Sea m-Series 6006 Single Battery Switch with no issues at all so when I install two batteries on the trailer tongue this spring I'm thinking I'll replace the 6006 with a 6007 which will give me the option of running dual 12 volt batteries either sequentially or simultaneously. :B
Again, though wouldn't it be better in regard to the peukert effect to always run both batteries. While inverting it would be better to run both to minimize the peukert effect. Assuming you are inverting and that's where running 12's is better. But yes, a switch would let you run off one battery if you had a problem with the other.
Yes, the 6007 is nice, I use three of them. One to select between 6 volt strings, one to select/isolate converter or Quick Charger and one for solar panels.
