You have a good point which I've observed doesn't always sit well with some forum pundits who bristle when a suggestion offered doesn't precisely agree with their own or from their perspective, 'though related, may not be exactly on topic. Annoying, but it's pretty common behaviour on pretty well any forum and something I guess we just have to put up with if we want to participate. :(
I'm running 6's but have considered 12's because I could knock 75 pounds off my rear end. I'd have to go to Trojan 150 ah to be able to even attempt to pull my sometimes 120 ah overnight loads.
In my own case I'm running a bit less gross tongue weight than I would prefer, ~ 13%, so in fact replacing my single G27 with a pair of G31s would actually land me just about where I'd prefer to be, ~ 14%. In the OP's case, the reason I brought up the dual battery switch is it would allow him to run his anticipated set of four 6 volt batteries, two of which would be new, the other two ~ 2yrs old, in any fashion he so chose - one set independent of the other or both sets together. Seems like a pretty good solution to me ... but hey, that's only my opinion. ;)
