Ive heard that removing those plugs will invalidate your warranty as these are considered sealed batteries,but I guess warranty is good only for a year or so!?
Imo adding water wont help since these plates are packed so tight in the Glass Mat that water will not penetrate into it anyways.
Re your comment on adding water that will not penetrate - my gut tells me you are probably right.
