Based on the shape of the paint, I think it was built that way. I stuck a cell phone camera on stick in there to look for obvious issues and didn't see anything on the motor side.
It's still possible there something going on there, but all seemed well from the cell phone pictures.
Assuming it came from the factory like this, I wanted to get a feeling for my options before I start tearing into it.
