Thanks, I got a glimmer there and also from reading more stuff like this especially the last answer.
http://www.mjlorton.com/forum/index.php?topic=406.0It turns out the controller is in PWM all the time.
When I was doing my tests, I could put my meter on the controller's input and see what that voltage was but I was not able to really measure the current there. I got output watts with voltage and current. I could derive the input current by assuming input watts was output watts corrected for controller efficiency which I picked out of my hat.
What would be neat, is if somebody has a controller that does show input V and watts or even I too, is to wait until Absorb is well under way so there is room for more load and turn on a light. Note the changes to output V, I, and W and also what happens with input V, I, and W. That would answer my question I think.
I could have done this test ( sort of) back when, but didn't think to do so.
