Regarding the Lifeline gpl-31XT.
I bought one new for a friends portable powerpack project.
It was delivered fresh fromn the factory and was 12,92v if I remember correctly.
I did put it in a charging source for several hours at 14.4v and the amps never tapered below 0.9 on that initial charge
I wound up dishcharging it a few dozen AH and recharging it on a PD9245(14.4vABS,13.8, 13.2vFloat, and amps did taper below 0.62 at 14.4
After that it was resting at 13.23v for several days, and I slowly drew 5Ah off the top and it still read 13.16v
I was impressed.
Its other charging source was a 160 amp alternator in a ram 1500 4x4. I ran 2awg cable to it's alternator (+) stud and mounting bolt. When 50% depleted, the trucks 160 amp alternator, at idle, was delivering over 100 amps to it for at least 5 minutes. When the alternator casing read 220F it basically stayed there and amps tapered, and voltage at battery terminals was still well under 14. More revs did not increase output at this point.
I was impressed. That was july 2015. The owner has drawn it to 11v on several occassions and has instrictions to plug it in for a day or 2 to recharge, then unplug, no matter how long the drive home was, and every 30 days when not used. He claims the battery is still going strong. I am not sure of the total number of cycles and their depth. Nor the actual condition of the battery. The owner wanted the best battery and I stressed the importance of its promp and rapid recharging to full, and thePD9245 specs are withing Lifeline listed parameters, and it can be forced to 14.4v whenever.
The Lifeline gpl-30HT is the GC15 size group. Same as the trojan T-1275. Its weight per AH is even higher suggesting to me, thicker plates.
USbattery and East Penn also makes a GC15 size group and these are likely the only true 12v deep cycle flooded batteries available in North America, though Rolls Surrette makes on too.
If/When my capacity requirements increase, The GPL-30HT is my dream house battery, but it likely could be just as if not more impressive than my Northstar group 27 has been as both house and engine starting/ true dual purpose battery.
But The GPL-31XT would require no modifications to my mounting systems to accommodate. whereas the extra height of the GPL-30HT would, even on its side.
The GPL-31XT I built the portable powerpack for is mounted on its side. Portable is 'kind of' a funny description, as it is at least 100Lbs, but it does have carry handles and methods to lock it down tight when in the back seat of the ram 1500. If the truck flipped the powerpack would remain in place.
Do not rely on just the weight of the battery, to keep whatever battery you choose, in place where you mount it. I know many in vans simply place an AGm on the floor with little regard to locking the battery in place, and should the worst happen, the battery can become a lethal projectile.
