Hook Solar controller right to battery posts, not inverter posts. It will work the other way, but when inverter is on, it can reduce voltage seen by controller.
Never disconnect solar controller from battery before disconnecting solar panels ( in lighted conditions) from controller. Doing so might fry it the first time, perhaps the 10th. Do not risk it.
Some solar panels say not to disconnect from load in lighted conditions as it can damage Diodes internal to panel.
