AGM and Flooded battery combination

I recently bought a boat that has a regular 12 v battery for the 90 hp outboard eng and a Optima 12 v AGM to run a few lights. I would like to put them in the same area and combine them for recharging. Is this possible? or is the chemistry so different to not allow this?

  • They will work OK together when charging from the alternator or in use. Storage without float they need to be separated due to different resting voltage. Best to charge them separately after the day of boating. If spending money get matching batteries.

And yes I have used Optima AGM and Interstate wet cell batteries in parallel.
  • Apples and oranges!

Stick to the 12v AGM and buy another one and you'll be fine!
