I too would recommend charging via a charge controller. Small ones are fairly cheap, and considering the cost of an AGM battery, well worth it.
NOTE: I am (normally) Not a fan of AGM batteries, I think they are over priced for most RV uses. and the advantages claimed for them not all that apparent in my expierence.. There are, however, a few exceptions to that.. YOU are one of them,, Tent camping.. Very clear advantages when used in a tent.
Additionally: You might consider one of those automotive "Jump packs" instead of the basic battery.. Bit more money, but what is in them is an AGM battery often in the 20 amp hour range (I like to see them have at least a 900 peak amp rating, I like 1,000 better but you can not always find those).. Some of them come with a few built in upgrades as well.

(The one I just bought is a smaller one and only has a light)
It is, however, big enough to crank up my ONAN and a few minutes of that thing running with both converters wide open and the motor home will start.. That is a good thing.
