In our TC, there is not a lot of external storage space. One side has the genny on a slide out and the refer venting. The other side has 2 20# propane tanks on slide out and another compartment with the cassette toilet storage tank access.
We wanted 4 batteries so under the dinette was the only choice and they had to be AGM's. In our other TC, the 2 battery pull out tray was on the slide and you have to stand on a ladder to maintain them. I was notorious for forgetting to check these guys and have "lost" a few in the past.
I have opened the battery compartment door under the dinette a few time in 3 years, ask the AGM guys "Hows it goin?" "Just fine Mr. Crosscheck," and thats it.
Lets look at the price difference of AGM vs wets at $150 and lifetime of 6 years, thats $600/year. Our yearly recreation budget is pretty sizable and working on the percentage point of view, it works out to around 2% of our rec budget per year.
Pros for our lifestyle:
1) Able to take more vibration from rough roads
2) Yes, maintenance free
3) Internal storage option
4) Inverter friendly
5) Has a great relation with solar/charger system
Cons:
1) 2%/year added cost to our rec budget.
Bottom line is, I didn't get into recreating to save money.

That $600 cost AGM vs wets should be over 6 years so the percentage of rec budget should be .33% not 2%.
Fun I'm good at, math not so much.
