Well I was just curious about people that have used the agm sealed batteries. Whether you feel they are better and worth the extra cost. Also about the longevity vs regular deep cycle batteries. I see sams club has the energizer 100 amp hour agm for about $170.00. Its suppose to last twice as long, twice as many cycles and have a safe deeper discharge, like 6o percent instead of 50 percent. Also no maintenance. I am going to be upgrading my batteries and I am looking at golf cart vs 12v deep cycle vs 12v agm. All opinions appreciated! Thanks

I am going on 5 yrs with a single Sears Group 31 12V AGM and it still holds a good charge, able to run the furnace on cold nights while boondocking. The money spent was worth it not to deal with adding water and the acid a wet cell emits, already had to rebuild a battery compartment due to acid and I thought I was doing a good job. No more wet cells for me. I use a Honda 2000 for recharging during the evening while watching tv.

Which brings up another question, are Sears Group 31 12v agm better than Energizer 12v agms or are they really the same. The energizer is made by Johnson controls. I think

I didn't want to have to fiddle with adding water to batteries and equalizing them, etc. 1150 CCA is pretty good (not saying that CCA's mean hoot in camping)I also have a Sears Platinum AGM Battery in my Truck which had performed flawlessly!Personally, I'd stick with the Sears as opposed to the Energizer. The Sears has a tremendous warranty (4 years/return iirc)WoodGlue

"Better" depends on how you intend to discharge and charge your batteries....- What loads will you be operating and for how long?- What is your daily power budget?- How much total battery capacity do you want?- How will you be charging and maintaining your battery?- What is your budget (in dollars)?It is my opinion that most RV owners are best served by (pairs of) 6V golf cart batteries. They are economical, long-lasting, offer tremendous capacity, very tolerant of abuse (if simple maintenance is done), and easy to charge. I have 3 Odyssey (EnerSys) PC2150 AGM's in my camper and I think that they are amazing !!! But I also have some unique power needs, plenty of solar, and a high-current, programable charger. For me they are "(much) better and (well) worth the cost".With regard to the Diehard Platinum (EnerSys) VS. Energizer (Johnson Controls) AGM batteries... The answer will depend upon your definition of better? - The Diehard has higher capacity, more cranking power, lower internal resistance, true deep-cycle design, longer warranty, nationwide availability, and are manufactured in the USA.- The Energizer is less expensive. Both require special charging considerations to achieve their full capacity and service life.Optima batteries were good once upon a time. But when Johnson moved their manufacturing outside the USA the quality went down considerably. Today they are among the worst choices for an RV house battery.Cheers-Mark
