Air in water lines??

Hey folks,
I just back from a 10 day trip to the Smokies. We camp at the Cades Cove campground. For those that do not know, there are no hookups in the campground. It is dry camping. During the trip we kept getting sputtering from the cold water faucets like there was air in the line and occasionally the water pump sounded like it was running a little rough. I tried running the water to get the air out but the problem persisted. Stock shurflo water pump. Any ideas what I have going on?
As always I appreciate your help.

  • Removed water line fron suction on tank, installed T in drain, connected pump suction line to side of T.Tanks are to flat and easy for water to move to off side and suck air.Fixed my problem
  • Found the fitting on the tub and the inlet side of the pump a little loose. Tightened them and it seems the problem is gone. Thanks for all the help.
  • It's sucking air in from someplace. Mine did this and found the winterizing valve had a cracked fitting on it. Those valves are expensive, so I just ended up removing it. I won't winterize anyways, camp all year round.
  • If you have one of those clear strainers on the input side of your water pump, make sure that is snug and also not cracked. I've had one crack on me before. As already mentioned, check the water pump fittings for snugness and cracks.
  • Sometimes it takes a day or two for the pump to quiet down after a trip.
