Let me add some info:
Over the last 1000 miles I've had a strange happening. While coming home from a road trip, making a right hand turn onto a street, I felt and observed what I thought was a flat tire on the MH or toad. I could see the toad in the monitor rocking back and forth as if limping on a flat. I pulled over right away, walked the perimeter and alas, no flat. Pulled away slowly and no additional problem. Well, this happened last week again, a couple months apart. Once again, the same rocking and rolling after switching lanes and going over an RR crossing. Same result, no flat and no further issue.
So to set the stage, I've been towing a different toad for about a year now with different tow bar setup. Use to have a Saturn toad with Roadmaster now tow an HHR with a Demco bar. The height difference is not significant between veh and MH but it has caused some concern. The HHR rides low and if I lover the hitch to be level, it bottom's out often but even still, I'm pretty close to the 4" formula.
I can't place what might be causing this...so I've started grasping at anything....some possible idea's are:
1) It appears my HHR can take up to 20" wheels so since I need new tires anyway, I might go with a bigger wheel to increase Veh height.
2) I checked under the MH, looking at air bags/shocks etc....While I have replaced the Ride height valves years ago, the bags and shocks(Koni's) are original equip(1995 chassis) and the passenger bag does not appear to inflate at the same rate as the Driv side bag. I'm thinking that even though the bags and shocks may still be OK, there age might be an issue in the remaining life span of the MH?(it's a quality MH so I'm hoping for some more year's put of it).
3) It seems HHR's have typical issues with engine mount torgue causing a rocking sensation on front wheel drive veh's. They made a torgue dampening devise but I'm unsure if this is an issue while the veh is being towed/un powered.
4) Another thought, would be alignment of my toad but I'll satisfy this issue when I get new tires/wheel and have it aligned.
In a LONG nut shell, I'm throwing things at the problem while not knowing the cause...so any thought's or anyone have a similar experience? I'd welcome any guess'es? :-) Sorry for being long winded.
PS...I've looked over the tow bar for any sign's of binding that might cause this..now while I don't care for the nomenclature of the Demco bar as much as I liked the Roadmaster bar, I can't see any evidence of a part sticking, then releasing that might cause this rock/roll!
