Aliner electrical problems - need advice

Hello! We recently installed a new WPCO-8725P power center and new fully charged battery in our 2008 Aliner Scout. Here are some problems we are having:

When we are plugged into shore power, and the battery is CONNECTED, all electrical works, but the power center fan runs constantly.

When we are plugged into shore power, and the battery is DISCONNECTED, all electrical works, and the power center fan does not run.

When we unplug from shore power, and the battery is connected, we have no electrical power.

So it seems like there is a disconnect between the battery and the power center. Assuming everything is installed correctly, any ideas? Could a faulty circuit breaker cause this set of circumstances?

Learning as I go.....Susan

  • Battery is connected properly, not shorted and fully charged. Converter is connected exactly as the old one was connected (the old one worked for years before it stopped working). All fuses, including battery fuse, tested and good. Almost ready to throw in the towel and take to the RV repair shop. Any last words?

On many RVs there is indeed a battery disconnect.. Often the control switch is just inside the door (We call that a salesman switch)but it may also be in an overhead panel,On the dash (Of a motorhome) or in the master control center.
  • A VOM/multimeter is your friend, even a cheap one can help trace electrical problems, Is the Wafco working properly (it may not be) they have a poor reputation. it will also tell you if things are hooked up correctly.
  • Really appreciate your input.
Will test battery and check that it is hooked up properly.
    Thanks!
  • If you accidentally. Got the wires backwards, there are usually a pair of fuses that will blow.

He said it was new but it could be shorted.
I bought a pair several years ago and one was shorted right off the shelf.
  • Welcome to RV.net!
Reversed connection on battery or converter
    Shorted battery
  • Any chance you hooked up the battery backwards? It's not hard to do because the colors they use for the battery cables are sometimes confusing and counter intuitive.
If you did then the reverse polarity fuses on the converter blew.
