Alt...charge reading on dash

Just a quick question while just returning from Florida, Sunday, on Monday I started the m/h and Alt-charge showed on dash. Could the alt. be faulty? or what should I look for?? The m/h is a 2007 Holiday Rambler with a 325 cummins engine, new engine batteries about less than 60 days ago and have driven it about everyday....Any help would really be nice. I really do not want to drive it to far because the engine and gauges all look like they are about to zero out.

    Fact that alternator got extremely hot, while NOT charging does not sound right.
    Unless you are good in electric stuff, I would call automotive electrician, or remove the alternator for testing.

    Guaranteed Correct Diagnosis

    1. Shorted stator winding

    2. One or more shorted or open rectifiers (diodes)

    My Guaranteed Correct Diagnosi, are rarer than a blue-eyed iguana.

    the m/h was not hooked up with anything, no outside power at all.

    Was either the Genset or Shore Power connected when the ALT fail light came ON? If so, disconnect Shore Power or the Genset and see if it comes on again. Post the results. IF the ALT light stayed off I will explain what happened. Doug

    Check chassis battery voltage. Then start MH and check battery voltage again.
    Post the results. Voltage should jump from maybe 12.5 to 13.5+ when started.

    The light did stay on even after high rev's, as I said in the other post the Alt. was very hot to the touch just after five min of run time....

    Did the light stay on after you rev the engine?
    Beside checking the plug and wiring to alternator, you can take it to one of those automotive places that offer free testing.
