For four batteries, 10 amps. A stupid-model transformer charger set to "10-amp" setting should be fine.
Top charging has a time limit of about 1 hour. The batteries must reach 15.0 or power is chopped at 1 hour regardless of voltage.
THEORY
If a 40 amp garage charger is used on a pair of batteries, voltage may rise to 15.0 in less than a minute. Essentially useless.
If too small a charger is used and there is no time limit but s voltage shutoff point, the batteries may spend hours and hours and even days while voltage gradients upwards gradually, exposing the plates to significant overcharge.
Regular top charging can add a significant amount of lifespan to a cared for battery on float or in stasis (storage). Maybe 20+ percent - perhaps (probably) more.
Storage, means someone shows up enables a portable generator and performs the task manually.
Small float chargers that try to do this are pathetic. A top charge is a specific protocol beyond the capability of a charger rated say 2 amps max.
