One cell or a million cells, if one fails it fails. Car jar RV batteries are not as rugged as golf car batteries. I wonder what the point is in having groups of more than one 6 cell battery? If one cell in one battery goes bad, it will negatively impact all the other cells and indeed the entire battery bank. Everything is a trade-off. Trade redundancy for a more fragile battery setup?
I know of few folks who have battery banks with so much excess capacity that the failure of one battery would not significantly impact their quality of their vacation. The issue of powering with a pair of 6 cell batteries versus a pair of 3 cell batteries is not a cut & dried decision.
Most folks do not factor in statistical data analysis. The more cells you have the more likely one of them is going to fail prematurely.
Wilderness camping is a whole different world than hopping from power pedestal to power pedestal.
I've seen too many battery banks damaged by one bad cell. Biases me toward having fewer, higher capacity, higher quality cells. To each his own.
