- StirCrazyModeratorso this is cool and all that, but the first question that jumps to mind is with a range of 200 miles and lets say you go camping 80 miles from home, no hookups how much power do you have for actualy camping and still being able to get home?
fort me they have to get much better on the range as I quite often drive 300 to 500 miles, each way, to go camping and I still need to be able to use power when I am there. - 3_tonsExplorer IIIThese machines cannot prosper without a middle-class (purchasers)…’Green’ or not (let’s not kid - NOT on that scale!), the determined economic trajectory doesn't bode too well for their acceptance…
3 tons - ICE remains King :) - philhExplorer IISpeed has a HUGE impact on BEV range. RV's are typically a heavy non aero brick, and will not see reasonable range anytime soon.

Any time you see a mileage figure on an electric vehicle see if they give you any average speed figures to accomplish that mileage. You might be surprised that most electric vehicle mileage range figures are driven at 28 to 32 MPH flat and level. If you drive it at 65 MPH the mileage range is cut in half or more.
Very true. For a city bus, regenerative braking can really have a big positive impact on range and since it never gets above 40-45mph, wind resistance isn't a big issue.
For compact BEV cars, a ton of effort is put into aerodynamics along with a massive battery bank relative to the overall size of the car.
Your average brick shaped RV has horrible aerodynamics. You are looking at 40-50kw continuous output to maintain freeway speeds. With 108kw battery bank, that's more like 130-150miles at 60-70mph. - GjacExplorer IIINice layout, nice size very expensive. I would rather see a hybrid in the same basic MH.
- Excellent progress continues. Thanks for the link.

LOL. :). Your EV experience is much different than mine. LOL. :).- midnightsadieExplorer IIyep. let joe keep them all.

- GdetrailerExplorer IIIIn perfect weather and no hills..
Add in hills/mountains and 90+ temps or freezing weather and all of that range goes right into the trash can.
Might work for someone that camps less than 100 miles from home but it it wouldn't work for me.. My camping spots are 800 miles from home one way, 34 gallon tank on my truck plus additional 15 gallon tank in the bed of my truck gives me average range of 490 miles between fill ups. Basically I only make one fuel stop from home to campsite and one stop from campsite to home. My fillups with gas take on average 10 minutes tops, not going to fill up a battery in 10 minutes and not enough to get another 200 miles.
For food and nature calls, we find rest stops or stores we can park in.. After all, we have a self contained unit with kitchen, fridge, microwave and yes restroom facilities. We make those breaks whenever we feel we need them rather than have the vehicle dictate when and where.
200 or less miles range would add an extra day of travel in my case when you add up the extra needed charge stops and each stop is going to require a lot of time sitting in a ugly parking lot in heat or cold. I would rather be moving instead of sitting still in a parking lot to bum a charge.
Still impractical as is for long distance, needs much more range and that takes a lot more battery which eats up all of your cargo capacity.
