Any data on Frig/freezer fires?

Does anybody have any data of what the cause(s)of RV frig/freezer fires are?

I can't find any info. Nothing on manufactures web sites. And most news stories end with "cause of fire unknown" or fire investigation continues type thing.
Thanks

OK maybe I should of explained a little bit more. I'm going to upgrade all elect in coming months and considering putting in halogen fire extinguishers system for frig/freezer. http://www.firefightproducts.com/Fire_Fight_Supplemental_Hal.html But I'm wondering if some type of temp readout (readable from cab and bunk area)might be better. Best I can figure out, the fires are from "high temperature sensor" or "boiler" plate that fails. Don't know if that is certain brands or certain models or both. If I had someway of knowing frig was getting up in temps by a digital readout and alarm I could do something about it before temps ignited something, maybe alarm goes off at 700 degrees?. But if these fires are from a some type of spark when something fails, not much use to monitor temps IMO. That's why I'm wondering about the exact cause of fire if anybody knows.
  • You could search your state or the national Fire Incident Reporting System for info, but - as others have already said....why??.:@

BTW - very difficult to do a good fire investigation when the source area (and usually the entire RV) are destroyed..:W

Does it matter? There is plenty of opportunity with these devices. Can be propane leak or ammonia leak. Both are flammable. And there should be a spark or flame to start the fire of course, which can be caused by electrical circuits of the fridge or by propane burner. Can burn out peacefully without a propane or ammonia leak as well (if something starts the fire) - there is plenty of wood in the cabinet and plastic.

If you are really worried and losing your sleep over it, consider a 120V or 12V compressor fridge.
