Anyone have a trick for city water intake valve?

Our city water intake valve is broken. Seems to me that a few years of the fresh water house hanging off of it finally did it in. The hubby hates "modifying" or drilling any part of the trailer....but...

Yes.. Those work to take the weight off, though I'm not sure exactly why. When I hook a hose to my tank rinser, the connection leaks behind the spinny tightening thing (technical term), unless I hold the hose up to take the weight off. My RV shop suggested I use the above brass 90* thing, and the issue went away completely.
