I just did a repair similar to what Fleet Man described; I used a 6-inch piece of 2"x2"x1/8" aluminum angle cut down to 3/4" on one leg to match the door frame.

Really is unconscionable for that manufacturer to continue selling what is clearly an inadequate product - and charge for a poorly engineered repair item.
