- Golden_HVACExplorerI did not see that happen, but I have watched it a few times. It looks like there is glittering gold sitting on the sea floor, waiting to be vacuumed up! I don't think I want to be there in 30F ocean water doing that job!
Now the excavator mounted on the larger barge, with a screening unit, that looks a little safer to run in such cold water.
Back in the late 1800's in the Sacramento Valley, companies used to dredge up the rivers looking for gold, and the found a lot of gold! Left behind huge piles of river rocks in the 2-10 pound size. All the finer gravel and sand got washed downstream, after giving up a percentage of the gold. .
Hugh Howser did a TV program on the dredging system, and all the rocks that where left behind. That program was called California's Gold.
