April to now -- dead battery?

Here is a puzzler. After April, when I put my TT into storage, I disconnected the battery (negative terminal) and went on my business. A couple days ago, I reconnected it, plugged it into my generator, ran the A/C for a few hours, then turned things off and checked the battery voltage. Less than four volts... completely dead. The cells are at the proper water level. When I disconnected it around the first of April, it was at full charge.

I wonder what killed it, since it was just sitting stored for that amount of time.

The battery was purchased in early January of this year.

  • Agree. Put into storage fully charged, no way should it go dead in that amount of time. What brand?
  • Some times you just get a bad battery. Happened to me. Bought it brand new three month later dead as a door nail. They replaced it no problems since.

I disconnected my three GP24 standard issue Interstate 12VDC batteries mounted on my trailer tongue last OCT. They have been sitting disconnected using battery switches outside on the trailer tongue over the winter months. I checked them in March and all was great with 12.6 or so reading on my meters. I plugged in my trailer to use for supplying power to the house not too long after that for a thunderstorm that knocked out house power and the batteries did as expected running my inverter supplying 120VAC to the house items. I recharged these batteries back up using my 2KW generator running my trailer allowing the on-board converter/charger to recharge the batteries.

I just checked all three batteries last week and they still look great. These GP24 12VDC batteries were originally installed in late 2008.

    Just lucky I guess...

I should have put that in (just edited the original post to include that). I bought the battery in early January of this year, so it probably was a couple of months old at the worst.
