Even though this is a nominally closed system, there can be some evaporation, particularly from the over-flow tank, which is not sealed. It is not unusual to add a quart or two a year, even if there are no leaks. Coolant loss can vary with the hours that the system is heated. With a lot of winter use, or if your system is heated with the engine, evaporation will be greater.
