You could be fooling yourself about how "full" the solar gets the batts.
I thought my solar was getting the batts full most days this summer using accumulated AH and voltages which indicated full. Still I was getting worried about my two- year old pair of Exide 6s not quite reaching baseline SG of 1.280/5 but stalling at 1.270/5.
Have them home for a few days, so put them on VEC1093DBD Equalize.
It started off slower than usual once Equalize started, with voltage slowly rising from 15.3 on up to charger's 15.7 instead of jumping right up in voltage like it used to with these batts. It stayed at 4.1a (max at this setting) longer than usual before tapering. Lots of fumes, big struggle happening!
After approx. seven hours it said FUL, so I checked SG. 1.280 all cells! Fluid clear (maybe a touch of grey, hard to tell)
So, moral of the story is they were not getting full in the field and still needed a goose every so often. (I knew that and said I was going to do it monthly, but I got lazy when it seemed they were reaching "near baseline" and, coulda woulda shoulda.
Got to get those other two 6s on shore power but it will be another month. Give the old 1093 another challenge!
