Salvo's post gave me a brainstorm solution. Simply leave the inverter on (i.e. not in standby mode) with no loads. Add that to leaving the battery disconnect switch on and I'd have 1 amp per hour.
That should "fix up" most folks who are not using up 5%. It would not be quite enough for my system--but I still feel it is a dissipation of surface charge with no chemistry involved.
