PT, my controller maxes at 14.6v no matter how many panel watts I have. I could only equalize by going panel- direct and getting over 15v with no draw on the batts at the same time, which leads to the problem mentioned previously.
It is not a matter of how much solar you need to equalize (is a time factor there--can do it over more than one day with less solar) so much as how to run the rig's 12v while still doing that.
Obviously, there is another low limit where you can't get the batt voltage up into the 15s at all without enough amps. You need a certain amount of charger power per battery bank size. The more you have the higher you can get your voltage before it stalls at some level the charger can't raise any higher.
Given that much, I am not restricting the time available to one day's worth of sunshine.
Which is aside from my basic contention that all solar is just "solar assist" :)
