It would be interesting to compare the numbers you get with the numbers from some newer units to see if the temps are much different.

is there an issue with your fridge that makes you think you may have a problem after nearly 20 years?

Runs great. No problems. Just a safety device for me and also, it will be nice to monitor the temps. As I said earlier, I'm often off level so now I'll be able to see how that affects the boiler temps. I'd say, if it's a concern or if you just like gadgets (like I do) install one; otherwise, fuhgedaboutit.

However, it would seem that some fridges are more susceptible to having problems than others. I wonder if the design of fridges is different enough to explain the differences. I figured they all worked about the same way. Geeze, maybe I'm wrong. Again. :)

The fridge from my former 1987 Citation Class C still runs on 120 volt. It is a Norcold.

Ah c'mon, I'm trying to find out if a fridge that is nearly 20 years old is still working well. If it is then maybe this gadget isn't as necessary to keep an eye on things as it would appear. I agree that it does appear to be a worthwhile thing, but fridge fires seem to be fairly uncommon and perhaps they are caused by certain design shortcomings that do not exist in all units.

And no the people driving Model T's weren't thinking about seat belts too much because it wasn't much of an issue when the speeds were lower, and traffic congestion was much less. Pretty poor analogy. I think a better analogy might have been the carbon monoxide detector. It has saved lives, but not that necessary much of the time.

Any consideration given to not letting the temperature/pressure rise, this would reduce work hardening of the cooling tubes. This might reduce the cracks that develop in the cooling tube leading to the fridge fires.

If the fridge is damaged, at least in theory, preventing further damage would put off the replacement date.

Yes, I understand your point.

But not sure I agree that a better control in the future is of no value because of how it was treated in the past.

Guess I would more equate it to your engine's cooling system. The fact that is is not overheating does not mean that there is no blockage in the radiator because, say the coolant is 10 years old. Nor does it suggest that changing coolant would not be a good idea to minimize future problems.
