Atwood 1522DCLP furnace no worky(UPDATE)

My Atwood 1522DCLP RV furnace fires up for 5 seconds, 3 times in a row before shutting down. It is not an old unit and has not had a lot of use in the last year.

There is plenty of propane and batteries are topped up(14.42v) with the solar. We have driven the TC on a lot of rough roads July and August if this is maybe an issue but there was no need for the furnace. Am making a trip up north in late September and the nights get a little chilly so I will need a furnace.

Before taking the TC into an RV tech, any suggestions on what to troubleshoot?

Dave

  • The board has gone down in price since 2014.
I recently had the same exact problem my control board was $71 on eBay delivered part number Atwood 34696
  • It was the circuit board. Don't know if it was low or high voltage, heat, excessive vibration from rough roads etc. $140.00 for replacement. A lot of ka-ching but heading up north where Jack Frost just made himself well known. Gotta have a furnace.

    Thanks for the troubleshooting advice.

  • Sounds more like lack of 'flame proofing'

When main flame lights off it needs to engulf the spark electrode. This produces a milivolt signal back thru spark electrode to circuit board that 'proves' main flame lit. Circuit board then keeps voltage on gas valve holding it open.

No flame proofing......circuit board drops out DC voltage and closes gas valve.

Spark electrode position, electrode dirty/sooted up, low propane pressure, dirty burner assembly, loose/corroded contacts on connector to circuit board

HERE is a service manual that covers your model (Atwood 8500 IV series)
