Atwood Water Heater Wont Shut Off

So I replaced the PRV, and tstat and eco, water is too hot have 155 at sink. I don't have power on the brown wire to the tstat, I ran the hot water down tosee if that kicked the tstat in but it didn't. The water will still heat even if there is no power to the t stat?

BTW I'm talking on 110, not propane, does the electric element have a separate tstat?

  • OB I do appreciate your help. I didn't know theres a separate set of stats for the electric side. It is a2002 HR, and I do have access to the backside, it looks like there is an access panel on the back. I switched on the propane side and the ignitor sparked and there was voltage present at the tstat then. I will follow up on it tomw.
  • Happened onto this site this morning, maybe useful to you:

  • OK......just a few questions to clarify

Do you have only one set of t-stats?
None on backside of tank for electric element?

Atwood changed the control circuits.......went from separate set of t-stats to one set of t-stats.
Separate set of t-stats had electric on backside with element and gas in outside compartment.
Combo set of t-stats just in outside compartment.
When they changed they also changed how the electric element got 110V power.
Before the change 110V AC went directly to/thru separate t-stats to element.
After change...12V DC from switch goes to relay that controls AC to element

    Normal t-stat Opens at 140*F.........Closes at 110*F
Need power to and thru t-stat for electric and/or gas to heat
