Atwood Water Heater

Trying to help someone with an electronic ignition Atwood water heater.
Will not light. 8 VDC to gas valve with valve disconnected.

Is that the correct voltage. Should it be 12 VDC to the valve?

  • Follow the DC voltage......find where the 'resistance' is dropping the voltage

    To switch---12VDC
To circuit board.....12VDC (Brown or Orange wire)
To T-stat then back to circuit board....12VDC (Brown wire)
To ECO then to Gas valve.....12VDC (Red wire)

Loose, dirty, corroded connections........high resistance....stops DC easily

    NOTE:
DC Voltage to gas valve only happens for 6-8 seconds while spark electrode is firing.
Circuit board drops the DC to gas valve after that unless flame lights off and proves it lit
  • You have one of the newer electronic control panels? If so bad news is it has probably failed.
  • Manual states needs 10 volt minimum
