I need some help from the group mind determining what a particular awning part is called, so I can search for replacement.The parts I'm looking for live on the slide-out rails of a manual roll-up style "Carefree" awning. Its the black knob, and more importantly, the little square of steel it screws into, to lock the slide-out rails in place once you've extended the awning.One of mine vibrated lose and is gone now, so the awning still works, but I'm unable to lock down the support rail on that side now.I'm going to go find the awning manual and see if it has a parts list...

I'd take the other knob off and take it down to any RV parts supplier - suspect it won't be hard to replace.

A picture is worth a thousand words:)Take pictures of the end that is missing the part....as well as the part on the opposite end, so you can explain to a parts guy.I'd go down to a local RV parts shop.....talk to the guy about what the part is called, and get a price. You can always go look for it on-line, but if you possible, buy local (if their prices are at least close...figuring taxes vs. S&H)The mfgr's website may have all the information you need. Many will have access to PFD files of their manuals.

do you need the arm locking knobs

Every RV parts store I've ever been in carry replacements for the knobs and the little square steel part (some are sort of star shaped). They even have universal type that will work.I've replaced a couple over the years. Just walked in the store, found them on the shelf and paid for them.

Put some grease on the threads and don't overtighten. That screw is only pressed into the plastic of the knob. Once it slips, about all you can do is pry the knob part off and twist the screw out of the aluminum nut with visegrips.

It's a large aluminum "nut" that fits inside the rafter closely enough that it can't turn when the knob turns. There's one on my bench and it's 1/4"x20thread. Our first coach had a Dometic (A&E) awning and I think those knobs might've had a larger screw in them.

I think you will find it is a 5/16 square nut.

It appears to be the slider set screw listed at the bottom of the diagram.

This Carefree kit contains both knobs and the nut you're missing.

Locking knob and possibly the brace slider (12 and 13 on the diagram above) ... is the slider the piece inside the arm?

Good to hear its not a rare thing, I'll be passing through a town full of RV stores in the next few days.

Are you saying the "little square steel" nut is what you need? I was able to pick some up (2 to the box) at local RV dealer. It took some magic to put in. (Edit part) WOW... less than 1/2 hour has part number and pic with multiple posts.
Wish I had that type of service at RV dealer.
