ST (Special Trailer) tires are constructed with heavier materials in the casing as compared to light truck tires giving the ST tires more strength and load carrying capacity.
Heavier?
The Commercial TA weighs in at 45lbs.
A Towmax ST weighs in at 37lbs.
As others have stated...put the two next to each other and you decide which one is stronger! I jumped to LT's and was amazed at how flimsy the sidewalls on the ST were. They felt like you could push your finger through them as compared to the LT.
The other thing to remember is that because BFG is not recommending the use of LT's on a trailer...meaning they probably won't cover a warranty claim. While on the other hand...good luck getting an ST manufacturer to cover a claim.
