If they tell you the ST is better than the LT for your 5 why would you persist in going to an LT? As I was told, your best insurance is those round black things that hit the road.
A lot of folks here are under the belief that THEY are smarter than the engineers that designed the tires.
Tires blow out, that IS a fact, it happens and can happen to ANY type of tire on ANY type of vehicle but yet folks insist the evil tire manufacturers are conspiring to make total junk of the ST tires. Even better yet, the belief that one tire manufacturer is better than all the rest.
There are MANY reasons as to why tires blow out, more often it has to do with overloading and underinflation along with ROAD HAZARDS (I personally had a 10 ply LT truck tire blow out on my truck, the cause, a BOLT went through the tread).
Folks give it a rest, move on with life and get back to camping..
There ARE valid reasons as to why EVERY VEHICLE CARRIES a spare tire...
The above statement is trying to make you believe that a very high percentage of st tire failures is caused either by road hazards or operator error. This just isn`t the case. Concerning road hazards, how is it that percentage wise st tires fail exponentially more than LT or even P tires? Doesn`t make sense, or is it somehow the st tires are magnets to road hazards.
I would say that a higher percentage of people with rv trailers check the air pressure more often in the trailers tires compared to people that drive cars and light trucks. My guess is that the average person gets the air pressure checked when they have their oil changed, every 5000-6000 miles, that is not very often. I tend to believe that there is at least 50 percent of the cars and LT`s going down the road today that DO NOT have the suggested air pressure in their tires and for some unknown reason you do not see a high number of vehicles sitting along side the road with tire failures.
The bottom line is China made ST tires and also some American made ST tires are made to very low quality specs.
IMHO if a person would like to have peace of mind they would be using a LT tire that is correctly rated for the application instead of ST tires.
