Basic question on max MPPT capacity to batteries

Use #8 for the single 250w panel to controller and also use #8 for the two new panels in series. (About the same amps) However note the controller efficiency 48-12 vs 24-12 for percentage loss.

You win on wiring being thinner and lose on controller efficiency so your output watts (where the amps to battery comes from) is better or not? I have not done the math, but you could be better off in parallel with the #8 at 24-12? anyway no thinner than #8 either way.
