Battery Cable Sizing - PD9260

After working on friends trailer last week, one item that was not addressed was the size of the battery cabling, which I believe was a 6AWG (maybe an 8AWG, not sure) for his 2001 trailer, a 26 ft model, having probably no more than 15 feet from battery to the PD9260 which we installed. He is running 2 group 29 marine/deep charge batteries.

Now I can look up a 30 ft length circuit for 60 amps (got that from the PD9260), and can see that a #2AWG wire is called for, but under what circumstances would the PD9260 output 60 amps to the batteries? Or from the batteries to something in the trailer? Does he really need to upgrade to #2 AWG (or larger)battery wiring?
  • He can keep the wiring as is, but when charging from a generator when the batts are low, to get faster charging (more amps), he might have to use the Charge Wizard pendant to force the PD into boost stage 14.4v.

With that wiring it might not go into boost by itself. For ordinary work it is fine if it stays at 13.6v
  • Assuming he wants a fast charge with limited generator time I suggest pulling #4 wire.

If the pull is difficult just leave it as is. May need an extra 20 to 40 minutes charging is all.

Real test would be to measure voltage during initial charging of a low battery. Compare voltage at the converter vs. the battery terminals.
